Project Details

The City of Littleton will be installing an extension of their existing sanitary sewer wastewater collection system into the Shadycroft Acres neighborhood. This extension will run the full length of Shadycroft Drive, from the intersection of South Rangeview Drive to South Windermere Street. It will also include the length of Graham Lane from the intersection of South Rangeview Drive to Shadycroft Drive. A map of the described sanitary sewer alignment can be seen on the attached figure.

The City has identified thirty-two properties within the Shadycroft Acres neighborhood that currently operate with existing septic sanitary sewer systems. With the installation of the new sanitary sewer, property owners will have the opportunity to connect to the new sanitary sewer main. The properties eligible for connection are also shown on the attached figure.

This project also provides an opportunity for the city to replace aged pavement and improve roadway design. The full extent of Shadycroft Drive and Graham Lane will be resurfaced in 2027 after the completion of the sanitary sewer installation.

Road Closures

The project will require a dynamic partial road closure that will move along with the installation of the new sanitary sewer main. After installation of the sewer main, the roadway will be temporarily returned to existing grade with a drivable gravel surface until asphalt paving operations of the entire road surface are performed. Visit Cone Zone for current road closure information.

Updated Project Schedule

Construction is anticipated to take approximately four months to be completed, starting in summer 2026 and ending in late 2026.

A general project timeline is as follows:

  • Summer 2025: Field investigations of property existing septic sewer systems, utility locating, surveying and geotechnical soil borings.
  • Summer - Spring 2026: Project design and bidding
  • Summer 2026 - End of 2026: Construction of sanitary sewer main
  • Summer 2027: Paving of Shadycroft drive and Graham Lane

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much will this cost me?
All underground utility work on private property from the stubout to your home is the responsibility of the property owner. When a connection is made to the public sewer system, a City of Littleton Sewer tap fee will be required, currently priced at $5,000 per residential unit.

  • How do I abandon my existing septic system?
Refer to Section 6.8 of the Arapahoe County On-Site Wastewater Regulations that can be found at this link:

    https://arapahoe.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=F&ID=11349378&GUID=6FF1CB3B-125C-4057-9C26-B998DBA347D9

  • When will construction begin?
Installation of sanitary sewer main along Shadycroft Drive and Graham Lane is anticipated to begin July 2026.

  • Will the existing roadways be re-paved?
Re-paving of the entire width of both Shadycroft Drive and Graham Lane will occur in Summer 2027.

  • Will the city provide sanitary sewer service stubout for future sewer service connections for homes along Shadycroft Drive and/or Graham Lane.
Sanitary sewer service stubouts will be constructed as part of the project and extend to the edge of the road right-of-way/property line for properties along Shadycroft Drive and Graham Lane.

  • Am I required to connect my existing sanitary sewer service to the new sanitary sewer main being installed along Shadycroft Drive or Graham Lane at this time?
Property owners are not required to connect to the new sanitary sewer immediately.  However, the City of Littleton does require any properties with failing septic systems that are within 400ft of an existing sewer to connect to the sanitary sewer system.  The City of Littleton encourages private properties to connect and use of the public sanitary sewer collection system.  The wastewater from homes is then property collected and treated in an authorized municipal wastewater treatment facility.

  • What can I do if I do not want to connect now but anticipate connection in the future?
The City of Littleton will provide a sanitary sewer service line pipe stub out connection to the edge of the road right-of-way/property line for ease of connection in the future. This option avoids additional construction costs and disturbance to the existing road pavement in the future, when a connection is made.

  • How can I find a Contractor to do the sanitary service line installation on my property?
The City of Littleton recommends any residential utility or excavating contractor with experience in sanitary sewer installation and/or septic system installation should be able to perform this work. The City suggests investigating construction costs from more than one vendor.

  • What information was collected during the septic tank inspection that occurred within the Shadycroft Acres subdivision on Monday, June 23, 2025?
Crews from the firm performing the engineering services for the Shadycroft Acres Sanitary Sewer Extension Project collected information on the location and depth of your existing septic tank and sewer service line. This information allows the engineering team to incorporate those existing conditions into the design of the new sanitary sewer main to be installed in Shadycroft Acres and Graham Lane.
