The Mineral Station West Multimodal Improvements project provides enhanced safety and connectivity for both pedestrians and bicyclists between the Regional Transportation District (RTD) Mineral light rail station, surrounding developments, the Carson Nature Center, and the Mary Carter Greenway Trail. These improvements include new bicycle facilities and enhanced pedestrian sidewalks along the Platte River Parkway and Carson Drive to the Mary Carter Greenway Trail as further described below.

Project Improvements

The Mineral Station West Multimodal Improvements project planned improvements include:

  • Constructing a new raised cycle track and pedestrian sidewalk to provide a high-comfort bike and pedestrian facility along the east side of Platte River Parkway between Mineral Avenue and Carson Drive. The existing vehicle travel lanes along Platte River Parkway will be reconfigured to provide additional space for these multimodal improvements. The raised cycle track will connect to a planned cycle track along Platte River Parkway south of Mineral Avenue that is part of the RiverPark development.
  • Upgrading the existing four-way stop intersection at Platte River Parkway and Carson Drive to a roundabout configuration to enhance safety.
  • Restriping Carson Drive to include advisory bike lanes along both sides of the roadway. Advisory bike lanes, delineated by dashed lines and pavement bicycle symbols, are typically installed along two-way, narrow streets where marked bike lanes cannot be accommodated due to limited street width. Advisory bike lanes are best suited for low volume and speed streets. Motor vehicles can use the advisory bike lane to pass on-coming cars when the bike lane is clear.
  • Providing additional signing and striping within the South Platte Park trailhead and Carson Nature Center parking lot to provide safety enhancements.
  • Improving the accessibility of the existing sidewalk in the southeast corner of the Mineral Station Park-and-Ride lot, connecting the plaza of the pedestrian bridge to the park-and-ride.

The Santa Fe Drive Action Plan- A Planning & Environmental Linkages (PEL) Study | C-470 to I-25 (2020-2022) studied and identified future transportation and safety improvements for an 11-mile stretch of Santa Fe Drive between C-470 and Alameda Avenue. Some of the improvements identified in the study informed the Mineral Station West Multimodal Improvements project. The PEL Study included regional community engagement.

Project Funding

The project design is funded by City of Littleton local funds. Construction of the Mineral Station West Multimodal Improvements project will be funded through a Denver Regional Council of Governments Transportation Improvements Program grant and local matches from Arapahoe County and the City of Littleton, totaling over $3.3 million in funding.

Project Design

30% Design

The City has completed 30% design for the Mineral Station West Multimodal Improvements project as shown in the graphic below. This design builds on the outreach and results from the PEL Study, in addition to input from stakeholders including RTD, South Suburban Parks and Recreation Department, and private landowners and business.

Final design is anticipated to be completed in late 2026 and the final design concept will be posted on the project website.

Other Area Projects

The Mineral Station West Multimodal Improvements project is part of the 10-year plan identified by the Santa Fe Drive Action Plan- A Planning & Environmental Linkages (PEL) Study | C-470 to I-25. This is one of many projects in the Littleton/Mineral Station area that will be constructing high comfort, safer, and more accessible bike and pedestrian facilities. The other projects in the area include the Mineral Mobility East Improvements Project along Mineral Avenue, east of the RTD Littleton/Mineral Station, and the Santa Fe and Mineral Improvements Project.
